Measuring Stick

After a dreaded bye week, it's time for some App State football once again. Let's face it, when your team has a bye week it's BORING. Don't get me wrong, there was some fantastic football played this past weekend (Ole Miss/Alabama). But there is absolutely nothing like being able to watch your team compete on a Saturday afternoon.

This week's test will take place in Norfolk, VA as the Mountaineers take on Old Dominion. Old Dominion is a team that has proven they can score the ball in the past. This season (through three games) they are averaging 21 points per game, but allowing their opponents to sore 28+. This is a good sign for the Mountaineers. Although we didn't prove it against Clemson, App State has an offensive side that can score the ball. Additionally, I think we proved against Clemson that out defense can stop any team that they want. Nevertheless, Saturday will prove to be a tough test for the Mountaineers. The game will serve as a measuring stick for where we are right now.

As of now the Mountaineers are 1-1. We honestly haven't learned too terribly much about them. They severely beat a poor Howard team and were handily beat by a very good Clemson team. This week's game will show where we are at right now in the season. I'm feeling very good about it. What I saw at Clemson wasn't nearly as bad as the scoreline read. Yes, the offense struggled. But I would dare say that the defense EXCELLED despite the lopsided scoreline. I say that the Mountaineers win, giving them their first FBS win of the season.

Official Jordan Tate Prediction: App State 34, ODU 24.
